Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will the Summer Exploration Program operate on campus for Summer 2020?

The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, & staff is our top priority. With that in mind and in light of COVID-19, we are moving the Summer Exploration Program online and reducing tuition to $400.

The Summer Exploration Program – Online Experience offers the perfect hybrid of live teaching and peer engagement — all handled remotely in a content-rich 4-day curriculum taught by our Academic Partners. Our online program will operate Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm (EST) and will provide opportunities for participants to engage in live lectures and activities led by Wake Forest staff. The online experience will also allow participants to engage in discussions with like-minded peers from across the country as they study various STEM-related topics. Learn more on our web page here!

  • I'm already registered for the on-campus Summer Exploration Program. What are my options now that the program is being hosted online?

We know that many of you were looking forward to joining us at Wake Forest this summer and recognize the disappointment this announcement may bring. As we move forward, we are offering three options for students.

We are excited to offer the Summer Exploration Program – Online Experience. Our Summer 2020 online program will operate Monday – Thursday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm (EST) and will provide opportunities for participants to engage in live lectures and activities led by Wake Forest staff. The following program weeks are the proposed online offerings based on survey feedback and are contingent on enrollment of at least ten or more participants

    • June 15-June 18, 2020
    • July 6- July 9, 2020

Tuition will be reduced to $400 and scholarship awards will remain the same. If you have already completed a payment greater than $400, a refund of the difference will be applied to your original payment method within five business days of online registration. After completion of the form, additional details and the link to enroll in an online program week will be emailed to both students and parents.

    Deferral:

Students who request to defer their enrollment will use their payments made for Summer 2020 to secure a space in the 2021 program week of their choice. All payments made for Summer 2020 will be applied directly to Summer 2021 tuition. Students who were offered scholarship support will be awarded the same support for 2021 if they request to defer. Students who select this option will not be required to submit a new application or recommendations for Summer 2021, but they must register for their desired 2021 program week when registration opens in November 2020.

    Refund:

Students who request to cancel their registration will be refunded the full amount paid for Summer 2020, including deposits that were previously non-refundable. Students who select this option may re-apply for Summer 2021 but will be required to submit a new application, including scholarship support application if applicable, and recommendations. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and acceptance and scholarship support is not guaranteed.

  • What are the application requirements?

Students are asked to complete the free, online application, as well as submit one teacher recommendation. Once the completed online application and one digital teacher recommendation has been received, a decision will be sent via email.

  • Does my middle school student need to have prior STEM experience to apply to the program?

Students are not required to have any prior STEM experience to apply to the program. We are looking for curious, bright students interested in learning more about STEM in an engaging virtual experience.
